Christmas fun!

At our November meeting we generally have a sewing session.  This year we had a choice of projects selected by Di.

Lots of people had a busy evening.  Obviously, not everyone was up for sewing, but they happily supported the evening and came for the gossip!

Here is my effort - Gary the gnome.  Ready to hang on my Christmas tree in a week or two. 

June made ‘green’ parcels using recyclable materials as raffle prizes.  Gorgeous! 

There was plenty of show and tell.  I think people have been using the recent dull days to sew. 

This quilt was made by Jacquie from some Dresden Plate wedges which were left over.  A great arrangement. 

Jacquie also made this quilt for her son.  It’s an amalgamation of designs by Sarah Fielke, Monkeybuttons and Pat Sloan.  I’m sure he’ll treasure it. 

Rocheberie quilters recently had a challenge competition, which was won by our very own Gaynor!  Well done! 

Paula is in a group where the members all made quilts with different Dresden Plate blocks.  There are quite a few different ones. 

Chris made this cute quilt at a Stuart Hillard workshop.  Such fun. 

Here is my entry for the Rocheberie competition.  I had great fun making it. 

Maria brought some rugby fabric from New Zealand and has used it in this quilt to great effect. 

Gina went to a local class an made this quilt which was inspired by Jen Kingwell’s Circle Games.  She calls it Coffee and Cream! 

Here is a fun Linus quilt. 

Jacquie also entered the Rocheberie challenge and won third prize.  We are such a talented group! 

Chris made this quilt for a family member who asked for a green quilt.  I think this fits the bill admirably 

Here is Paula’s version of the same quilt as Gina.  Don’t they look different! 

Maria’s daughter complained that a draught is coming under her door.  Not for long, because Mum has made her this stylish draught excluder. 

Rose spied a bag of hexagons on the sales table and took pity on them.  She has used them creatively in this beautiful Linus quilt. 

We won’t be meeting again until January, so I will wish all a very happy Christmas and a healthy and productive New Year! 

AGM

Unfortunately I was unable to attend the AGM, as we were away.  Apparently it went very well (as usual).  Vicki and Di have stepped down from the committee which is a shame.  We will definitely miss them both.  This leaves the committee with just six members, Ann, Chris H, Chris T, Jacquie, Lynda and Lynne.  It would be even better if there were some more people who would like to join them, especially as we move into our twentieth anniversary year.
There were some demos in the second part of the evening, which people found very interesting.

2019 Exhibition!

We usually hold our exhibition every other year, so when 2019 came along, we got buse.  We have usually held it in October, but since the Big Textile Show is also in October, we decided to bring our dates forward a month and hold it at the end of September . 

Lutterworth Town Mayor, Tony Hirons kindly agreed to come along and add an official air, and have his photo taken with Vicki and myself right in front of Gwyneth's lovely quilt.  Rob Woodward kindly took the photo and it was published on the Harborough Mail site.  

Here are photos of the event, in no particular order.  Several people kindly offered to do demonstrations, and here are Julie and Gwyneth in front of an appreciative audience. 

 

We put some boards round the cafe area to contain any possible spills, and hung some of the smaller quilts there.

Inside the cafe, where hot drinks and home made cakes were on offer, we hung our cotton reel bunting.

The group kindly allowed me to have a display of Linus quilts and some of the lovely thank you cards we have received. Several people have expressed interest in making quilts or donating fabric.

There was a fascinating display of wall hangings, bags and cushions. 

We had lots of goodies on the tombola.  The theme was something to put something in, which meant there were lots of totes, baskets, bags and even some little girls' sdresses 

The sales table was also groaning with goodies.  Lots of bargains to be had here! 

Our trader was the gorgeous Roxana from Hannah's Room.  Her top quality batik fabrics and kits were very much in demand.

June ad made up vases of fabric flowers for raffle prizes, and the proceeds will be donated to the Rainbows Children's Hospice. 

More quilts getting the admiration they deserve.m

Everyone who came was given two slips to vote for their favourite small and large quilts, and here are the Visiytors's Choice winners.  Hazel won second place in the small category for her amazing coat. 

Julie won first prize in that category for her runner, Scraps and Gin Drips. 

Chris won first prize in the large quilt category for her quilt Fall Fest. 

Clare won second prize for her wonderful Puffin. 

I'd just like to thank all those who entered quilts, as without them, there would have been no exhibition, and if you didn't, there will be another chance to share your work with an appreciative audience in 2021! 

September meeting

in September, we had the pleasure of the company of the lovely Roxanna Pallet from 'Hannah's Room' as our speaker.

Here she is with some of the goodies she brought to tempt us - I was one of many unable to resist!  Her talk was called 'I'll show you mine, if you show me yours' which was a little worrying, until she declared she was talking about UFOs!  Lots of people brought in orphans and tops, and were able to get inspiration, or get rid! 

June was typically on-trend with the raffle, which was Autumn themed. 

Here are some of the tombola prizes ready for our exhibition at the weekend.  Plenty of variety there. 

This is a quilt I made from a pattern in Stuart Hillard's new book.  I love the way it uses up loads and loads of 2.5" squares. 

Here is a Linus quilt with lots of colourful little pigs! 

This quilt has been made from Aldi fabrics.  They sell bundles of fat quarters from time to time, and these are all Winnie the Pooh designs.  Gorgeous. 

This cushion reminds me of folk art designs with its insects and flowers. 

Paula made this Linus quilt using leftovers from the Stuart Hillard workshop, using a Little Lavender Patch pattern.  Blue and white always look so clean and fresh. 

Here is another blue and white quilt.  Lovely. 

Sian made this Luna Lapin rabbit.  Adorable. 

This teddy had seen better days and was in need of a repair.  He's now back to his former glory. 

Here is Sian's Magic Tile quilt made using London themed fabrics.  The lettering enhances the design beautifully. 

Hearts are always a good design, and these ones in muted colours look very sophisticated.
