Jenny Dobson, quilt judge

Our July speaker was Jenny Dobson, who told us about the judging process at The Festival of Quilts. She brought a few of her quilts to illustrate her points.

Here she is with her Kimono quilt, which was made by a group of her friends.  It was very interesting to find out how the quilts are judged and winners identified.  I was hoping she might have some funny stories about unusual entries, but she was too tactful for that!

June had taken inspiration from the summer weather to make ice cream cornets! I was lucky enough to win one, for a change!

Show and tell was typically varied.  Paula had made some ‘trick or treat’ bags for the tombola.  They look such fun!

She also finished her Lucy Boston ‘Patchwork of the Crosses’ quilt.  It looks stunning!  She has a lot of stamina, as I only managed four blocks before I got fed up!  I wish I’d persevered.

Here is a colourful children’s quilt.  The fabrics look gorgeous.

Paula has really been on a roll recently, and has made this fabulous star quilt as a present for some friends.  They will be delighted.

Jacquie has also been making items for the tombola.  She used orphan blocks, quilted them and made them into project bags with clear plastic fronts.  The

They will be perfect for storing all kinds of things.

This is a cute children’s quilt.  I love the piano keys border.

I made this scrappy bag for the tombola too.  I’m sure it will be handy for someone.

A beautiful quilt made from half square triangles.

Lots of people seem to have fallen behind in the sew a row (myself included!).  It’s not a competition or a race, but these members are still on track.  Good job.

Ruth made this quilt for her grandson.  Her instructions were for ‘bright colours’.  She’s definitely got that!
